The Guam Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 145.91 for 2nd Quarter 2007 shows an increase of 0.90 percent over the preceding quarter and 7.48 percent when compared to the same period one year earlier. Further comparison shows that a market basket of goods and services costing $100.00 in October 1996 (base period), now cost $145.91.
The 2nd Quarter 2007 index was based on 1,628 price observations of which 473 or 29.05 percent remained unchanged, 58 or 6.63 percent increased, 66 or 4.05 percent decreased, and 981 or 60.27 percent were not available.
The largest increase over the preceding quarter was for the Housing group. The Housing index of 92.94 shows an increase of 1.87 percent over the preceding quarter and 5.39 percent when compared to the same period one year earlier. The Fuel and Utilities sub-category shows an increase of 5.91 percent over both the preceding quarter and the same period one year earlier.
The Food & Beverages group index of 175.53 shows an increase of 1.24 percent over the preceding quarter and 4.64 percent when compared to the same period one year earlier. The Fruits and Vegetables subcategory shows a decrease of 6.58 percent over the preceding quarter and a 2.08 percent increase when compared to the same period one year earlier. The Meats, Poultry and Fish sub-category shows a doubledigit increase of 11.16 percent over the preceding quarter and 10.64 percent when compared to the same period one year earlier. The increase over the preceding quarter was due to the increase in the price of poultry products. The Beverage sub-category shows an increase of 8.10 percent over the preceding quarter and 8.39 percent when compared to the same period one year earlier.
The Apparel & Upkeep, Other Goods and Services and Entertainment groups show a decrease over the previous quarter of 2.35, 0.25 and 0.13 percent, respectively.
Transportation shows an increase over the preceding quarter of 1.58 percent.
Medical Care shows no change from the previous quarter.
