Guam Consumer Price Index (CPI) 4th Quarter 2008 PDF Print E-mail
The Guam Bureau of Statistics and Plans is pleased to release the 2008 4th quarter Consumer Price Index .

The Guam 2008 4th Quarter CPI of 106.1 shows a 0.1 percent increase over the 3rd quarter of 2008, and an increase of 6.1 percent when compared to the same period one year earlier.  The All Items Less Food index decreased by -1.0 percent, All Items Less Food and Energy by -0.7 percent, and Commodities Less Food by -2.8 percent, as compared to the 3rd quarter.  The Energy index rose 0.1 percent and Services by 1.9 percent, as compared to the 3rd quarter.  Overall, prices have increased by 6.2 percent as compared to 2007.  The purchasing power of the dollar is now $0.64 when compared to base year 1996.
 
The Food group index of 112.4 shows an increase of 1.7 percent over the preceding quarter and 12.4 percent when compared to the same period one year earlier.  Cereal product prices have increased 3.2 percent over the preceding quarter and 51.0 percent when compared to the same period one year earlier.  Fish and Seafood product prices have increased 9.8 percent over the preceding quarter and 29.7 percent when compared to the same period one year earlier.  Fats and Oils product prices have increased 21.7 percent over the preceding quarter and 39.6 percent when compared to the same period one year earlier.  Beef product prices have decreased -9.8 over the preceding quarter and -3.5 percent when compared to the same period one year earlier.
 
The Housing group index of 112.2 shows an increase of 3.1 percent over the preceding quarter and 12.2 percent when compared to the same period one year earlier.  Home Fuel prices have increased 1.7 percent over the preceding quarter and 20.8 percent when compared to the same period one year earlier.  Electricity product prices have increased 7.3 percent over the preceding quarter and 34.7 percent when compared to the same period one year earlier.  Furniture and Bedding product prices have decreased -0.3 over the preceding quarter but increased 0.3 percent when compared to the same period one year earlier.
