The Guam 2009 3rd Quarter CPI of 106.9 shows a 1.4 percent increase over the 2nd quarter of 2009, and an increase of 0.8 percent when compared to the same period one year earlier. The All Items Less Food index increased by 1.6 percent, Energy by 2.3 percent, All Items Less Food and Energy by 1.3 percent, Commodities Less Food by 1.1 percent, and Services by 2.0 percent, as compared to the 2nd quarter of 2009. The purchasing power of the dollar is now $0.64 when compared to base year 1996.
The Food group index of 114.5 shows an increase of 0.8 percent over the preceding quarter and 3.6 percent when compared to the same period one year earlier. Sugars and Sweets product prices have increased 22.9 percent over the preceding quarter and 19.9 percent when compared to the same period one year earlier. Pork product prices have decreased -7.5 percent over the preceding quarter and -11.3 percent when compared to the same period one year earlier. Meals Away From Home product prices have increased 0.8 percent over the preceding quarter and 4.7 percent when compared to the same period one year earlier. Alcohol Beverages product prices have increased 1.6 percent over the preceding quarter and 10.4 percent when compared to the same period one year earlier.
The Housing group index of 110.5 shows an increase of 2.8 percent over the preceding quarter and 1.6 percent when compared to the same period one year earlier. Water, Sewer and Trash product prices have increased 13.8 percent over the preceding quarter and 24.9 percent when compared to the same period one year earlier. Appliances product prices have increased 5.0 percent over the preceding quarter and 11.6 percent when compared to the same period one year earlier. Furniture and Bedding product prices have decreased -4.7 over the preceding quarter and -13.3 percent when compared to the same period one year earlier.
The Transportation group index of 104.0 shows an increase of 1.4 percent over the preceding quarter, but decreased -2.6 percent when compared to the same period one year earlier. Motor Fuel prices have increased 6.3 percent over the preceding quarter, but decreased -23.0 percent when compared to the same period one year earlier.
The Apparel and Upkeep group index of 103.0 and the Medical Care group index of 103.8 shows an increase of 1.4 and 1.7 percent respectively, over the preceding quarter.
The Recreation group index of 102.1, Education and Communication group index of 99.2, and Other Goods and Services group index of 98.8 percent, shows a decrease of -0.6, -0.1 and -1.3 percent respectfully, over the previous quarter.
